On average, women spend about $66,954 more on healthcare over their lifetimes compared to men. For instance:

    • Ages 35 to 44: Women pay $2,199 more annually.

    Women also face discrimination in housing prices. Research shows that single women pay 2% more for homes and sell them for 2% less compared to men. This income disparity, combined with higher costs for products and services, creates a wealth gap between men and women. On average, households headed by women have 55 cents in wealth for every dollar held by male-headed households. This is further exacerbated by the Pink Tax.

There have been legislative attempts to combat the Pink Tax:

  • California: The state passed the Gender Tax Repeal Act in 1995, which prohibits gender-based price differences for services like haircuts and dry cleaning.
